The purpose of the EMN's Glossary of terms relating to Asylum and Migration terms is inter alia to improve comparability between EU Member States through the use and common understanding of the terms and definitions contained therein. The glossary shall also be used to develop further the EMN Thesaurus, the purpose of which is to permit the structured searching of documents within the EMN's Information Exchange System.
Terms are arranged in alphabetical order. For each term, the translation into other Member State languages is given, along with the agreed definition plus the source of the definition. A hyperlink to the original source document from which the definition was obtained is also given in many cases.
The EMN Glossary has also been published in a number of languages: Deutsch, English, Español, Français, Italiano and Português and contains an Introduction explaining how the glossary was developed by the EMN.
